The PowerDig project is at the center of the thematic area ‘energy systems and markets’ in the NFR EnergiX work program. The project researches market designs and the digitalization of short-run resource allocation.

Objectives

The aim of the PowerDig project is to explore and define new market design ensuring optimal short-run allocation of energy resources based on digitalization capabilities.

Activities

PowerDig develops different models to analyze the power market operation and mechanisms for providing the needed flexibility to ensure a secure and efficient system. These activities include analyzing the current market design (Day-Ahead=>Intra Day=>Grid Redispatch), integrating flexibility markets, and understanding TSO-DSO coordination.

Moreover, PowerDig provides perspectives on emerging trends and ideas on the digital transformation of power markets. The project aims to analyze the role of digital platforms that can manage the dynamic interactions between various market actors and the implementation of stringent security measures to protect both data and infrastructure. Another center-piece activity in the project is the development of case studies to demonstrate and validate the proposed concepts and models in real-world scenarios.
